7 Best Essential Oils for Hemorrhoids

Hemorrhoids are inflamed, swollen blood vessels found in and around the anus as well as the lower rectum. These blood vessels can stretch under pressure. The patient normally feels pain caused by venous swelling at or inside the anal sphincter. There are two categories of the condition that can be treated with essential oils for hemorrhoids: internal and external.

They are not usually dangerous or life-threatening and they are not contagious. The main causes are increased pressure; swelling from straining; chronic constipation; pregnancy; diarrhea; aging and heredity.

Internal Hemorrhoids

They are the most common type of hemorrhoids, which grow along the passage to the anus above the dentate line. They are painless because the visceral nerves located above the dentate line do not sense any pain, they only sense pressure. In some cases, they can emerge out of the anus as protrusions, which appear like small lumpy masses.

Internal hemorrhoids are classified as first degree (present with bleeding only); second degree (bleed & prolapse); third degree (require manual reduction); and fourth degree (non-reducible).

External Hemorrhoids

They occur outside the anal canal, near the anal opening. They are painful since they are surrounded by sensitive skin. You may experience bleeding and extreme pain with defecation when they become blocked by a thrombus. Thrombosed external hemorrhoids are seen as tensely swollen, rounded, small lumps on the anal verge, which do not extend above the dentate line. External hemorrhoids cause sharp pain during bowel movements. They also cause a burning sensation and severe itching around the anus. If you have external hemorrhoids, you will feel a hard lump.
